Thomas G. OtteT.G. Otte, MA, PhD, is senior lecturer in diplomatic history at the University of East Anglia, specialising in the history of Great Power relations in the long nineteenth century (1815-1914) as well as modern military history. He is the author of Clasics of Diplomatic Theory (Palgrave, 2002), The China Question: Great Power Rivalry and British Isolation, 1894-1905 (OUP, 2007), The Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, 1854-1946 (with Keith Neilson, Routledge, 2009), and The Foreign Office Mind, 1865-1914 (forthcoming). He has edited five books, and has published numerous articles in scholarly journals.
