Tony Bartelme

Tony BartelmeTony Bartelme, a four-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, is a senior projects reporter for The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina. Over the past thirty years, his investigative work has exposed government corruption and explored divers issues ranging from changes in ocean plankton to the global shortage of doctors. He has received the highest honors in journalism, including recent awards from the Gerald Loeb Foundation, Scripps Howard Foundation, Knight Science Journalism Program at M.I.T., American Geophysical Union, AAAS and Sigma Delta Chi. The S.C. Press Association has twice named him the state's "Journalist of the Year." In 2021, Columbia Journalism School awarded him the John Chancellor Award for Excellence in Journalism, which recognizes a journalist for cumulative achievements. Tony is the author or co-author of several books, including A Surgeon in the Village: An American Doctor Teaches Brain Surgery in Africa. He was awarded a Harvard Nieman Fellowship in 2010 and is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Read More Read Less
