Wayne JohnsI was born in Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand as an only child in a non-Christian home. In many ways I had an unhappy childhood, although I am now happily married with five children. In my late teens, I became a Christian part way through rt School at the Otago Polytechnic. My goal had been to become a political cartoonist, but that all changed following my conversion. I led a youth group and then completed a Diploma of Ministry at the Bible College of New Zealand. Since then my working life has consisted of Christian work in a wide variety of roles and settings. For example, working at a Baptist City Mission halfway house for residents with psychiatric issues, managing Inspirational Tapes mail order lending library, leadership and preaching roles within the Anglican Church, including establishing and directing a charitable trust and a victim support group, overseeing school chaplaincy, Baptist and Pentecostal pastoring, establishing a Ministers' Association, Bible College lecturing, and field work for the Bible Society that has led to an itinerant preaching ministry. In addition to my varied activities within New Zealand, I have spoken at Churches, Bible Colleges and conferences overseas, visiting nations such as Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. During my most recent trip to PNG, I saw something I had never seen before: a tearful, public reconciliation between church leaders from various denominations. Some of their grievances went back 30 years. I have been a cartoonist for a newspaper and invented of a Christian comic strip (slightlyheated.com). Over the years I have written a huge amount of Bible teaching material, a training manual for leading small groups (The NZ Cell Group Manual), and more recently the book, Revelations of the Kingdom for Suspicious Minds.
