Wilbur ThomasWilbur Thomas had a lifelong career as a freelance illustrator and sculptor. Following graduation from the University of Denver, Mr. Thomas was Supervisor of Art of the Rocky Ford Colorado School System. A move to New York led to a career as an art drector and freelance artist for advertising agencies, corporations, and nationally known magazines. Mr. Thomas' illustrations appeared with articles on sports, romance, aviation, adventure, westerns and science fiction. For many years the artist continued studying in New York in drawing and sculpting under nationally known art teachers. When he retired in 1966, he decided to devote full time to sculpting. He would work on anything that came to mind. He enjoyed immensely creating sculpture: some of which were beautiful, some amusing, some controversial, and some satirical. His sculpture, The Welfare State, was featured in Time Magazine. His sculptures adorn the Parker Playhouse in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. His son, Thomas C. Thomas II, lives in Palo Alto, CA and gave Wilbur four grandchildren, one of whom is the protagonist in this story. Read More Read Less
