About the Book

Martha Roswell was on the brink of a successful singing career when she met and fell in love with charming entrepreneur Robert Lee. She had somewhat given up on romance after a failed relationship with her son's father and kept her heart highly guarded. She was not prepared however, for how quickly she would fall in love with this dashingly handsome man whose words were as smooth as butter and whose mannerly charms made her feel as though she was falling in love for the first time. Never would she have imagined that the charming, gentle man she had initially fallen so hard and fast for would change to become her worst nightmare. Robert Lee was raised in the church by strong parents who taught him that success is the mark of a man's worth. As a child, he rarely lacked anything and he was used to getting his own way. He grew into adulthood believing that a man held dominion in his home and must always be in control. He was a handsome business man whose chiseled physique and flirty charms garnered the attention of various women. He quickly found that his ability to effect psychological manipulation came with ease and having watched his own father exercise physical control over his mother from childhood, Robert became accustomed to getting his demands met, at all cost. Based on the true life experiences of gospel singer and domestic violence activist Sherell Rosegreen, Abused under His Charm, recounts the story of "Martha" whose downward spiral; mentally, emotionally and physically from the hands of her initially charming abuser cost her career, her friends, the life of her unborn child, and nearly her own life. Blinded by Robert's charms, Martha ignored crucial warning signs and isolated herself from the care and concerns of her dearest friends and family. Robbed of her self-esteem, beaten, humiliated, and made to feel co-dependent on her controlling abuser, she finally hit rock bottom. At her most vulnerable state of weakness and desperation, her turning point came when she returned to her foundation of faith, gathered her resources and fought with everything left within her for the remains of what mattered most. Sherell Rosegreen is an inspirational gospel singer who refused to allow domestic abuse to define her worth. A survivor and a fighter, she rose from what could have resulted in her own tragedy to becoming an advocate for women suffering from domestic violence. Bringing abuse to light in an outreach to raise domestic violence awareness, Sherell has transparently detailed her experiences in the book Abused Under His Charms, which has now spawned a stage play of the same name. In 2014, Sherell founded a non-profit organization called Inner Scars whose mission is dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse reclaim their shattered, displaced lives by offering advice, help and support
About the Author: Sherell Rosegreen was born in the beautiful parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica and has been in the music business since the tender age of 5. While living in Jamaica, Sherell was involved in ministering at many church events. At one of her events (1985) she was playing the guitar, and Bishop Andrews from New Jersey was in the audience. He became intrigued by the anointing on Sherell's life and extended an invitation for her to visit his church in the United States to sing and play the guitar. In 1986, Sherell took up the Bishop on his offer and migrated to the United States. In 2002, Sherell lost her beloved Mom and became motivated to sing over the famous Shirley Cesar song "No Charge". Sherell's single 'No Charge'- was made very popular by the uniqueness of the different musical arrangement that was attached to this song. It was well received by her fans and the response was overwhelming. It was voted best selling single and the most requested song on Reggae Radio. Most importantly, because of the principles and values that have been instilled in her by her Mom, has now afforded Sherell the opportunity to be the best Mom possible to her 2 children, Dajah and Jayden. Throughout Sherell's journey, she has been through many obstacles. However, she has always been aware the test comes to strengthen the testimony. With being said, in 2004 Sherell came out with her first C.D. called Better Days. The name of the C.D. was derived from all of the obstacles that she had encountered. For example, she lost her Mom, she was incarcerated, and she lost her new born baby because of an abusive relationship. Sherell was beaten and left for dead when she was six months pregnant. She was thrown in a brick wall and her placenta was torn beyond repair, but Sherell never gave up, she continue to stay strong. With all of her tribulations, God has been good. The C.D. Better Days has done very well and a couple of the tracks on the C.D. have been nominated and awarded as best inspiration song on the year both in South Florida and New York respectively. Apart from Sherell's passion to bring forth music, she is also very passionate in being the voice for young ladies that have been physically abused.
