About the Book

Research and development in heat transfer is of significant importance to many branches of technology, not least in energy technology. Developments include new, efficient heat exchangers, novel heat transfer equipment as well as the introduction of systems of heat exchangers in industrial processes. Application areas include heat recovery in the chemical and process industries, and buildings and dwelling houses where heat transfer plays a major role. Heat exchange combined with heat storage is also a methodology for improving the energy efficiency in industry, while cooling in gas turbine systems and combustion engines is another important area of heat transfer research. To progress developments within the field both basic and applied research is needed. Advances in numerical solution methods of partial differential equations, high-speed, efficient and cheap computers, advanced experimental methods using LDV (laser-doppler-elocimetry), PIV (particle-image-velocimetry) and image processing of thermal pictures of liquid crystals, have all led to dramatic advances during recent years in the solution and investigation of complex problems within the field. This book contains papers originally presented at the Tenth International Conference on Advanced Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements in Heat Transfer, arranged into the following topic areas: natural and forced convection; advances in computational methods; heat and mass transfer; modelling and experiments; heat exchanges and equipment; radiation heat transfer; energy systems; micro and nano scale heat and mass transfer; thermal material characterization; renewable and sustainable energy; and energy balance and conservation.

Table of Contents:
Section 1: Natural and forced convection Numerical investigation of transient single phase forced convection of nanofluids in circular tubes; Numerical investigation of natural convection of air in vertical divergent channels Section 2: Heat exchangers Numerical simulation of fluid flow in a monolithic exchanger related to high temperature and high pressure operating conditions; Scalar characteristics of a lean premixed turbulent V-shape flame (air-butane); Numerical simulation of incompressible laminar fluid flow in tubes with wire coil inserts Section 3: Advances in computational methods LBM mesoscale modelling of porous media; Chemical reacting transport phenomena and multiscale models for SOFCs; Heat transfer between shell and rigid body through the thin heat-conducting layer taking into account mechanical contact Section 4: Heat recovery An experimental feasibility study of using diesel exhaust for space heating in Alaskan Villages; Heat recovery with low temperature spray drying for thermochemical hydrogen production Section 5: Heat transfer Peculiarities of heat transfer from in-line tube bundles to upward aqueous foam flow; Heat transfer in reactive Co/Al nanolaminates; Heat transfer and pressure drop experimentation inside single minichannels Section 6: Modelling and experiments Advances in gas turbine blade cooling technology; Thermal investigation of light emitting diodes; Nucleate boiling flow - experimental investigations and wall heat flux modelling for automotive engine applications; Air curtains of open refrigerated display cases revisited: a new technique for infiltration rate measurements; Performance testing of reflective insulation applied in a prototype experimental chamber in Greece: experimental results for summer and winter periods; A measuring method based on photodiodes for the diagnostic of optimal combustion conditions
