The major goal of this text is to cover a substructure in its entirety, throwing light on relevant aspects such as laboratory testing, structural design, and soil exploration. In this edition, Saran has dedicated chapters to designing foundations of transmission towers, and the foundations in expansive soils. About Swami Saran Swami Saran is an author and professor. Apart from this book, Saran has written Computer Programming and Numerical Methods, Reinforced Soil And Its Engineering Applications, and Soil Dynamics & Machine Foundations. Saran was born on 11th July, 1941. He completed his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Roorkee and went on to obtain his post-graduate degree in Geo. Engineering from the same university. He also holds a doctoral degree in Geo. Engineering from the University of Roorkee. He currently serves as a Professor at the University of Roorkee. Some of Saran’s research interests include Reinforced earth, foundation engineering, machine production, and soil dynamics. Saran is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Indian Geotechnical Society. He is also a member of the Indian Society of Desert Technology and the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology. Saran has also been awarded several times for his contributions towards the field of geo-technology.
