Anus mundi, l'anus du monde: un medecin SS avait ainsi qualifie le camp de concentration et d'extermination d'Auschwitz. Un homme a vecu la durant cinq annees et raconte ce qu'il a vu. Arrive avec les 728 premiers deportes politiques polonais le 14 juin 1940, Wieslaw Kielar (1919-1980) sera a la fois le temoin et la victime des punitions arbitraires qui rythment la vie du camp. Il detaille la terrible hierarchie installee par les nazis entre les prisonniers, le developpement du camp, les nouveaux arrivants, la routine des executions qui vont s'accelerer durant la derniere annee de sa detention. Tout est decrit aussi objectivement que possible. Son temoignage a la precision d'une memoire qui a ete marquee au fer rouge de l'horreur et qui ne peut oublier ni les potences, ni les coups, ni l'entassement des morts, ni les SS, ni " l'organisation ", c'est-a-dire la vie quotidienne dans l'enfer. La verite modeste qu'il transmet fait de son recit un document irremplacable pour l'Histoire. Il nous est parvenu au moment ou de nouvelles generations ignorantes des faits qu'il rapporte ont pu douter de leur realite, tant ils sont incroyables. Le general Eisenhower l'avait prevu en termes crus: " Ecrivez, photographiez, filmez " avait-il dit aux journalistes presents lors de la liberation des camps de concentration: " Dans cinquante ans il se trouvera des batards pour dire que tout ceci n'a jamais existe ! " Qui aura suivi " la lente descente de Kielar dans les tenebres concentrationnaires " ne pourra toutefois plus oublier.
About the Author: Contributor Biography - French Wieslaw Kielar, ne a Przeworsk en Pologne en 1919, fut arrete en mai 1940 par la Gestapo et envoye au camp de concentration d'Auschwitz dans le premier transport de prisonniers politiques. A sa liberation, cinq ans plus tard, il ne pesait plus que trente-neuf kilos. Apres une annee de soins en Allemagne, il revint dans sa patrie. Decede en 1980, il recut pour ce livre deux prix litteraires en Pologne. Contributor Biography - French David Rousset (1912-1997) fut interne au camp de Buchenwald et publia des 1946 L'Univers concentrationnaire. Plus tard, il s'insurgea contre le totalitarisme sovietique et fut parmi les premiers a denoncer le Goulag. Contributor Biography - French Mieczyslaw Kieta (1920-1984), ancien deporte, etait journaliste.
