About the Book

Summary:

Ricardo's theorem of comparative advantage is one of the most fundamental results of economics. It explains when a division of labor - regardless of other efficiency gains - between different actors can be worthwhile for all parties involved. For this reason, the theorem is sometimes called the universal law of association.

However, the theorem in its usual economic formulation is difficult to understand and cannot be easily generalized beyond cases involving two agents and two goods.

In the book, it is therefore first transferred to a more intuitive, result-equivalent competence-based formulation based on the basic assumption of the Competence-based Theory of Evolution. And with this, Ricardo's theorem can then - as will be shown - be generalized to an easily expandable and more understandable Ricardo's theorem of core competence advantages.

In this formulation it is finally applied to the reproduction organization of insect social states. Like the patriarchal sexual division of labor in humans, there is a division of labor between social and reproductive tasks in such societies, but only within females. It therefore makes sense to analyze this division of labor with the means of Ricardo's theorem of core competence advantages. The result obtained is in line with the biological observations, but not with the explanations and prognoses of established evolutionary biological theories.

The reasons presented are so compelling that the total fitness theory (kin selection) and the theory of selfish genes can be considered falsified.
