Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline The second edition highlights AWHONN's continued commitment to promoting evidence-based nursing practice and supporting breastfeeding as the optimal method of infant feeding for term, preterm and vulnerable infants. The original guideline recommendations have been updated based on comprehensive review and systemic analysis of the current literature in the areas of preconception and prenatal care and counseling, and breastfeeding support and promotion from birth through the first year of life. A new and essential feature of te revised guideline is a dedicated section that includes recommendations for breastfeeding promotion and support for preterm and vulnerable newborns and their mothers. The Quick Care Guide has been revised to include key breastfeeding patient assessments and teaching points for term and preterm neonates and their mothers in a user-friendly format. Continuing Nursing Education contact hours are also available with this second edition. This guideline is a must have for all healthcare providers responsible for breastfeeding care, support and education. This resource was produced in partnership with and through an unrestricted educational grant from Johnson & Johnson Pediatric Institute, LLC.
