Die Überlieferungen, wonach der bewußte Weg allen Menschen verkündet - und von Einigen auch gegangen wird, sind vielfältig und doch seit dem ersten Tag grundsätzlich von denselben Prinzipien und Ideen bezüglich Sinn und Wesen von Gott, Universum und Mensch beseelt: vom vor-islamischen arabischen Ritter über die florentinischen Fedeli d'Amore, die Trobadors, Graalsritter Templer und Katharer bis hin zu den 'modernen' Theosophen, Rosenkreuzern und den Mitgliedern anderer bonafider Gruppen. Der Sufi-Weg ist eine dem ersten Zen ähnliche orientalische Wurzel westlicher Mystik. Er entstand in Syrien, am Sitz des vorislamischen Kalifats in Damakus. Erst seit dem 9. Jh. ist er die Mystik des Islam. Dieser sanfte Weg, oft auch die Reise genannt, überzeugt durch die Einfachheit und Klarheit seiner Lehre. Liebevoll vereinigt er spirituelle Orientierung mit Lebensbejahung. Die Fabeln von Farid ad-Din al-Attar, die Gedichte von Omar Chyam, die 'Trinklieder' von Mirza Schaffis und Hafis sowie der unermeßliche Schatz der Erzählungen von 1001 Nacht sind sein künstlerischer Ausdruck. Der 'Brief an den Jünger' ist einer der kleinsten Texte des großen schriftlichen Werks von al-Ghazali, aber einer der wichtigsten: Er legt Sinn und Methode des Sufi-Wegs dar und ist zugleich ein Leitfaden für jeden Sucher, der nach einem sicheren, plausiblen und sauberen Weg der geistigen Selbstverwirklichung sucht und seinen Fuß auf den Pfad setzen will.
