Estamos en 1976, en medio de una dictadura dominicana, la época de la guerra fría. Un joven misterioso, "una sombra", como él mismo se identifica, viaja de New York a la República Dominicana para averiguar qué sucedió realmente con su hermana de 15 años, Isabelita, que fue secuestrada en 1961 durante la tiranía de Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, cuando él tenía sólo 18 años. Al llegar, se hospeda en la casa de su primo Carlos Santana, un empresario ligado al gobierno, donde convive con una extraña pareja de hermanos. En su pesquisa, se hace acompañar del sargento Delgado, policía violento y autoritario ligado a oscuras tramas políticas, pero empleado de su primo, es decir que se convertirá en su guardaespaldas personal y lo ayudará en sus investigaciones. Lo importante no es saber quién secuestró a su hermana (descubriremos que todos los personajes son de una manera u otra culpables), sino por qué y para qué. El descubrimiento, por supuesto, será asombroso y terrible. Una novela negra que funciona también como novela de terror. Como lo menciona Salviano en su Ubique Daemon: El Diablo, Satanás, se encuentra en todas partes. El reino de Dios está en los cielos, el de Satanás se encuentra aquí en la tierra.
About the Author: Máximo Vega nació en el año 1966, en Santiago de los Caballeros, República Dominicana. Ha sido premiado en varios concursos nacionales, en los renglones de cuento, novela y ensayo, y ha sido antologado nacional e internacionalmente. Algunos de sus cuentos y ensayos han sido traducidos al inglés, al alemán, al francés y al italiano. En el año 2000 el Taller Literario Virgilio Díaz Grullón de la extensión de Santiago de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (CURSA-UASD), lo reconoció como el Joven Intelectual del Año. En el 2002 obtuvo el Premio de Ensayo sobre los 200 años del nacimiento de Víctor Hugo, con el trabajo "Víctor Hugo en la Historia", traducido al francés, otorgado por la Embajada de Francia y el Ministerio de Cultura. En el año 2005 se colocó un cuento suyo en un libro de texto para estudiantes universitarios, en México y Puerto Rico, y ese mismo año Ediciones Ferilibro, la editorial de la Feria del Libro de Santo Domingo, publicó la antología "El Cuento Contemporáneo de Santiago", preparada por él. En el 2005 ganó el Premio Nacional de Cuento de la Universidad Central del Este (UCE), con su libro "El Final del Sueño". En el 2008 ganó el Primer Premio del Concurso de Novela Corta de la Fundación Global y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). Ha aparecido en antologías literarias en Puerto Rico, México, Italia, España, Colombia, Estados Unidos, Venezuela y la Rep. Dom. Publicó el volumen de ensayos "El Libro de los Últimos Días", editado por el Ministerio de Cultura. En el mes de abril del 2014 el Banco Central de la República Dominicana editó una recopilación de todos sus cuentos publicados, titulada "Era Lunes Ayer". Es fundador del "Taller de Narradores de Santiago (TNS)", ONG dedicada a la difusión de la literatura en su ciudad natal. Con un amplio trabajo comunitario, ha creado clubes de lectura, talleres sobre arte y literatura y cursos sobre escritura creativa en los barrios de Santiago. Dedicado también al trabajo audiovisual, sus videos han sido proyectados en la Rep. Dom.; en el Festival de Video Imago, de Cuba; en Italia; y en el Festival de Cine de Huesca, en España.
