About the Book

About the Author:

Satoru Kaneko is a Group Leader at KISTEC (Kanagawa Institute of Industrial Technology and Science) and a Visiting Researcher at Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received B.S. at Tokyo Metropolitan University, M.S. at the University of Arizona, and Ph.D. at Tokyo Institute of Technology. His study focuses on synthesis of functional materials of oxides, superconductor, and graphite related materials and also interested in fabrication of nanostructure. Recently, his interesting work is, for examples, deposition graphene in carbon dioxide, irradiating femtosecond laser on pencil-drawn paper. He published more than a hundred of paper, spends weekend with road bike, joking, and camping, and enjoys making bacon, beer, and roasting coffee in backyard.

Masami Aono is a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Kagoshima University. She obtained her Ph.D. from Gifu University in 2002. She became an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at National Defense Academy in 2001 and an Associate Professor in 2015 at the same institution before moving to Kagoshima in 2018. She is a worldwide active Scientist in the field of amorphous carbon materials, with expertise in amorphous carbon nitride films for opto-electrical properties.

Alina Pruna holds Ph.D. in Chemistry and M.Sc. in Materials Science (University Politehnica of Bucharest). She honored various research contracts with Centro Ricerche Fiat, City University of Hong Kong, and Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Her research interests include self-organization of porous alumina by anodization, template and template-free electrodeposition of nanostructured semiconducting oxides, conductive polymers and graphene nanomaterials and nanoarchitectured composites for biosensing, optoelectronics, corrosion protection, energy, and environmental applications such as CO2 capture and photocatalytic treatment of wastewaters from textile industry. She authored more than 55 papers, published 6 chapters, and 1 book and disseminated her research results in over 55 scientific events.

In 2011, Musa Mutlu Can got his Ph.D. degree in Physics Engineering Department at Hacettepe University, Turkey. After his Ph.D., he worked as Postdoctoral Fellow at Sabancı University, Turkey (2011-2013), and CNR-SPIN, Italy (2013-2015). Since 2015, he works as an Associate Professor in Physics Department at İstanbul University, Turkey. He constructed "Renewable Energy and Hybrid Systems Laboratory" at İstanbul University in 2018, mainly working on synthesis of nanostructures (nanoparticles, 2D thin films grown by CVD system, and thick films) suitable for electrochemical applications. His research has mainly focused on physical chemistry, in particular, electrochemical fuel cells, artificial photosynthesis, photocatalytic H2 production, and electrochemical bio-compatible systems such as implants and sensing electrodes.

Paolo Mele is currently a Professor at SIT Research Laboratories, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan. He obtained a Master's degree in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences at Genova University (Italy). In 2003, he moved to ISTEC-SRL in Tokyo to study melt-textured ceramic superconductors. Then, he worked as postdoc at Kyoto University (JSPS fellowship) from 2004 to 2007, at Kyushu Institute of Technology (JST fellowship) from 2007 to 2011, at Hiroshima University (as Lecturer) from 2011 to 2014, and at Muroran Institute of Technology (as Associate Professor) from 2015 to 2018 before reaching his current position. His research interests include materials for energy and sustainable development (superconductors and thermoelectrics); fabrication and characterization of thin films of oxides, ceramics, and metals; study of the effect of nanostructuration on the physical properties; thermal transport; and vortex matter. He is the author of more than 100 papers in international scientific journals and four book chapters, has two patents, and has contributed to hundreds of communications at international conferences. He edited five books for Springer.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ertugrul was born in Trabzon, Turkey, in 1966. He received the B.Sc. degree from the Department of Physics, in 1986, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. From 1994 to 1996, 1996 to 2001, and 2001 to 2002, he was, respectively, an Assistant Professor, an Associate Professor, and a Full Professor at the Department of Physics, Ataturk University, where he has been a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering since 2003. He is the author or co-author of more than 180 papers published in international journals and over 200 publications in national and international conference proceedings. His current research interests include carbon nanostructures and composites, energy storage systems employing 2D structures such as graphene, dichalcogenides and MXenes, biomedical and gas sensors, ultraconducting and superconducting cables, covetics, radar absorber materials, and superconducting and semiconducting devices. He worked as a Visiting Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory between 2001 and 2003, 2005 and 2006, and 2008 and 2009. He has been working as a Visiting Professor at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) since 2019. Prof. Ertugrul has received several awards such as Encouragement Award by The Scientific and Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), The Successful Young Scientists Award by the Turkish Academy of Sciences, and the Best Project Award. He was also awarded with NATO-C scholarship in 2001 and TUBITAK scholarship in 2009. He has served as a Supervisor to many master and Ph.D. students. He has worked for several committees such as the Higher Education Council, The Scientific and Research Council, and The Ministry of Science, Technology and Industry of Turkey.

Tamio Endo holds Ph.D. (Kyoto University, Japan) and MsD (Gifu University, Japan) degrees. He is Emeritus Professor at Mie University (Japan), Gifu University Special Researcher (Japan), Honorary Professor of Southwest Jiaotong University (China), and Visiting Researcher at the University of California - San Diego 1995 (USA). He is currently Special Adviser - Japan Advanced Chemicals, Atsugi, (Japan) after Gifu University Special Researcher (Japan). His research interests include oxide thin films, heterostructures, plasma effects, and bonding of polymer films. He has been part of many international academic projects such as Japan-India Cooperative Science Program.
