About the Author: When he was just 18, Gerry's life changed forever; he became a Franciscan monk and priest: a far-reaching commitment to a very different way of life. John McCann "died" and was "reborn" as Friar Gerry, robed in a celibate monk's long grey habit. It was a massive personal transformation. For the next 40 years he devoted himself to his religious vocation: a life of love and service of others, following the example of Saint Francis of Assisi. He faced countless challenges in his work as a Pastor, Preacher, Healer, Teacher, Writer and Author, University Lecturer, and Missionary in Central America. This demanding life-style tested all his reserves and strength: physical, mental, emotional. As a 'spiritual soldier', he developed massive self-discipline and strength of character, overcoming negativity, self-doubt, fear, mediocrity, laziness, and ignorance. His passion to help people inspired him to obtain University Degrees in Philosophy, Psychology and Theology, giving him a wide-ranging wisdom about our human nature. This equipped him with a professional competence to assist others. On a daily basis, he offered guidance and counselling to thousands of people from every walk of life, and in different countries. Aged 58, he faced his greatest challenge yet. Gerry found himself falling deeply in love with Sue. It was the very last thing they expected or needed. Why? Gerry was a celibate Catholic priest and monk: where then would their relationship go? Would he leave to marry Sue or continue his mission as a Friar Priest? Not an easy choice, for his love of God and the Church had remained strong. After many months of tormented deliberation he came to a final decision to follow his heart. He found the mental and spiritual courage to leave the life that meant everything to him, for an uncertain future with the woman he loved. He entered a very different way of life as a married man, living with Sue and her children. He successfully adapted to this profound change. Gerry then worked for a Homeless Charity in London. He also qualified as a Life Coach, NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist, and continued to learn, write and study. He has a great sense of humour, and enjoys music, travel and running marathons. This remarkable man believes that anyone can 'reinvent' their life, as he did, and become the person they want to be. His new mission is to inspire people as an author, "Gerry McCann The Merry Monk."
