About the Book

The success of the First United Kingdom Seminar on Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic Engineering Management (COMADEM 88) was such that the seond conference, and thus these Proceedings, was extended to include contributions from researchers throughout the world. The papers presented have again demonstrated that the field of COMADEM, although relativity young, is already making an important contribution to improving industrial performance. Even more significantly, they show that COMADEM, addressing as it does a range of issues such as reliability, quality and safety which are of increasing importance across a wide range of industries, will have much to offer in the next decade. Evidence of this potential can be seen in each of the thirteen sections into which the papers have been grouped. These sections include: machinery/systems health monitoring; application of expert systems in COMADEM; novel application of COMADEM techniques; and energy monitoring and management. This book should be of interest to practising engineers, especially production, mechanical and diagnostic engineers and all those engaged in academic/industrial research in Condition Monitoring and diagnostic engineering.
