Die rasante Entwicklung der Informationstechnik hat zu tiefgreifenden Veränderungen im Gefüge ganzer Branchen geführt. Bereiche, die bisher deutlich voneinander getrennt waren, werden durch die Informationstechnik zusammengeführt, so daß ihre Grenzen verschwimmen und neue Strukturen entstehen. Dieses Phänomen der digitalen Konver- genz, das sich in erstaunlicher Schnelligkeit vollzieht, ist zwar technologiegetrieben, wirkt sich aber in vielen anderen wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Bereichen aus und kann in seinen Konsequenzen heute noch gar nicht voll übersehen werden. Sicher ist aber, daß eine strategische Neuausrichtung der betroffenen Unternehmungen erfolgen muß. Dazu erscheint es notwendig, frühzeitig die sich ergebenden betriebswirtschaftli- chen Probleme zu analysieren sowie in ihren Auswirkungen proaktiv zu bedenken. Das Thema ist in einer Untersuchung, die notwendigerweise einen begrenzten Umfang haben muß, nicht auszuschöpfen. Es war auch nicht Ziel des Verfassers, eine allgemeine und für alle Gegebenheiten zutreffende strategische Konzeption im Sinne einer Hand- lungsanweisung zu geben. Vielmehr hat sich der Autor zum Ziel gesetzt, Bausteine für eine strategische Neuorientierung der Unternehmungen im Konvergenzprozeß zu ent- wickeln und zu beleuchten. Dabei kommt ihm zugute, daß er durch seine berufliche Tä- tigkeit im Rahmen einer großen Unternehmensberatung Kontakte zu vielen Unter- nehmungen des In- und Auslands herstellen konnte. Dadurch erhält die Arbeit eine empi- rische Basis, die nicht in einer abgesicherten repräsentativen Erhebung besteht, wohl aber in fundierten Aussagen erfahrener Praktiker, die sich in ihren Unternehmungen mit den Problemen zunehmender digitaler Konvergenz auseinandersetzen müssen.
