About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Lucía Zárate is a magical being, she's like that last drop that, when it comes into contact with the Opus nigrum would turn things into gold.

.
In 1876 president Profirio Díaz sends Deputy Lobatón to accompany Lucía Zárate, a Lilliputian, to a Philadelphia Fair. When realizing that Lucía is a gold mine, he soon discovers that he can be a business man, and begins to manager her bright artistic career that takes her on a tour throughout the most important European and US cities.
While on the US leg of the tour, he notices that the train route could be useful for transporting opium. Not realizing that he is about to bring about an industry that will put the planet into turmoil, he finds a Chinese partnership to help with the trafficking. Bold, rogue, cynical, and everyday increasingly wealthier, Cristino Lobatón is also an unconscious pioneer of rampant capitalism, of mass industrialization, and oddly, of ecological consciousness. An adventure and historical novel mixed with the picaresque; a novel that combines real and fictitious characters, with a whirling prose that takes the reader to unexpected territories.
