Esta obra, estructurada como una serie de viñetas, fragmentos y comienzos de novelas que se entrelazan y divergen, gira en torno a Yitzhak Abraham, un hombre atrapado en la monotonía de su trabajo en la Agencia Judía y en un matrimonio desgastado, cuyo único consuelo -y tal vez su neurosis- es comenzar novelas. Cientos de ellas. Solo comenzarlas. Esta compulsión por el inicio y la incapacidad para continuar o finalizar se convierte en una poderosa metáfora de la condición humana moderna: la búsqueda perpetua de un sentido que siempre parece estar en el próximo capítulo, en la siguiente idea, nunca en el presente.
A través de un humor ácido y un realismo teñido de surrealismo, Benarroch pinta un retablo de la sociedad israelí. La obsesión por el "descubierto" bancario -un estribillo constante y absurdamente cómico-, la burocracia kafkiana, la presión social y religiosa, y la sombra siempre presente del conflicto y el trauma colectivo conforman el telón de fondo de unas vidas grises que anhelan un escape. Los personajes orbitan alrededor de Yitzhak: su esposa sin nombre, el editor obsesivo Dany Stav, el andrógino Daniel, todos ellos perdidos en sus propias narrativas inconclusas, buscando una conexión que el mundo moderno parece negarles.
La narrativa da un giro trascendental cuando Yitzhak es despedido. La pérdida de su rutina, por odiosa que fuera, desata una crisis espiritual que lo lleva de la depresión y la inacción a un fervor mesiánico desbordante. Su obsesión por empezar novelas se transforma en una obsesión por el Templo de Jerusalén, y su monólogo interior se convierte en un grito profético en el Monte del Templo. Benarroch explora audazmente la delgada línea entre la revelación espiritual y la locura, entre la fe genuina y la desesperación existencial, cuestionando los pilares de la identidad israelí sionismo, religión, familia y la propia cordura.
