22 años después de salirse de Cuba en una lancha, Pepe el Salao escucha en las noticias televisivas un hecho que esperó por años: Con profundo dolor comparezco para informarle a nuestro pueblo, a los amigos de nuestra América y del mundo que hoy, 25 de noviembre del 2016, a las 10.29 horas de la noche falleció el Comandante en Jefe de la Revolución cubana Fidel Castro Ruz. La nueva lo transporta, inevitablemente, a su pasado en Cuba, especialmente a aquellos acontecimientos que lo obligaron a tomar la decisión de decir adiós definitivo a su patria para buscar tierras de libertad. Corría el año 1994 y marchaba un día normal, como otro cualquiera, en la vida de Pepe el Salao, quien era un hombre común que creía que su mala suerte era consecuencia de un padecimiento crónico o una especie de castigo divino que le habían dado al nacer. Realmente, Pepe no podía explicarse por qué todo lo malo siempre le ocurría a él: su padre se suicida lanzándose al vacío desde el quinto piso del hospital general de la ciudad, su esposa lo abandona por un chulo y decide ser jinetera buscando mejor vida, y el día que Pepe decide romper un celibato de casi dos años -donde solo estuvo acompañado por el alcohol y su forzada soledad- acostándose con una turista mexicana que conoce casualmente, la policía política de la isla comienza a acosarlo y es hasta despedido de su trabajo. Todos estos hechos, sumados a las carencias materiales de un duro Periodo Especial y la polémica situación político-social de la isla, arrinconan a Pepe en la desesperación obligándolo a elegir entre el orgullo y sus principios dentro de Cuba, o la libertad fuera de la isla. Epitafio para un sueño es una novela histórica inquietante que a través de la vida de Pepe el Salao narra una época y circunstancias que marcaron fuertemente la historia cubana. Con lenguaje coloquial y fuerte carácter testimonial, entre la realidad y la ficción se mueven los personajes de esta novela mientras van mostrando la situación real de un país que por momentos asemeja una gran prisión para sus habitantes, y fundamentalmente, para Pepe y sus amigos. Una trama repleta de amor, traición, odio, corrupción, misterio y, sobre todo, la lucha constante para sobrevivir dentro de un país que se desmorona. Epitafio para un sueño es, también, una cruda denuncia social y política de un régimen que desde enero de 1959 hace y deshace a su antojo en Cuba, un país donde nadie importa más que esa fauna de dirigentes comunistas que oprimen al pueblo y que trabajan para un régimen que, aunque ha pasado su fecha de caducidad, aún se mantiene en el poder. Carlos Alberto Dueñas Aguado regresa con esta, su segunda novela, con una pluma fuerte y crítica, aguda y sin tapujos, que muestra la destreza de un novel autor que puede transitar desde la novela erótica hasta la novela histórica con el talento del buen escritor.
About the Author: Carlos Alberto Dueñas Aguado (Cienfuegos, Cuba, 1958) Escritor y agente inmobiliario. Licenciado en Física en el Instituto Superior Pedagógico Félix Valera, de Villa Clara, Cuba. Coautor de Cómo escribir un cuento paso a paso (Letra Roja, 2009) y autor de 2 x 2 no siempre es 4 (CAAW Ediciones, 2016), su primera novela publicada, y tambien su primera novela erótica. Desde 2011 escribe su blog personal http: //cuentos-y-algo-mas.blogspot.mx. En este momento, prepara para su publicacion: dos novelas, un libro de cuentos y otro de poemas, escritos en los últimos quince años. Actualmente, vive en México.
