About the Author: Dr. Herman Autrup is Acting Chief, Carcinogen Macromolecular Interaction Section, Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Autrup received a Candidate of Science degree from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1970 and a Ph.D. from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, in 1975. Dr. Autrup is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Association of Pathologists and has received a Senior Investigator Fellowship from the Danish Cancer Society and a Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer Fellowship., Dr. Autrup has published numerous research papers including reviews and has co-edited an NCI publication on in vitro carcinogenesis., His current research interest is the study of interaction of chemical carcinogens with cellular macromolecules and biological consequences of such interactions especially in the colon., Gary M. Williams M.D . is presently the Associate Director and Chief of the Division of Experimental Pathology and Toxicology, Naylor Dana Institute for Disease Prevention, Valhalla, New York, and Research Professor of Pathology at New York Medical College. He received his B.A. in 1963 from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1967, where he acquired his doctorate of medicine., He is certified by the American Board of Pathology and the American Board of Toxicology., His research interest is chemical carcinogenesis with particular emphasis on the use of culture systems to study mechanisms of action. He has published over 150 papers on this subject., Dr. Williams is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, American Association of Pathologists, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, International Academy of Pathology, Society of Toxicology, Environmental Mutagen Society, Genetics Society of America, and the Society of Toxicologic Pathologists. During 1971, he received a Research Training Fellowship from the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Among four previous awards, Dr. Williams was presented the Arnold J.
