About the Book

Having already written over five hundred short stories, this book, written nearly thirty years ago, was my first attempt at a full-length story. Editing it for publication has been both entertaining and humbling - I couldn't help but laugh and cringe, surprised not only by forgotten plot twists but also by glaring plot holes and the roughness of the writing.

A clear and present danger arises when a Soviet general devises a plan to restore the Soviet Union's former glory by threatening global leaders with nuclear warheads stationed in Ukraine, using them as leverage for blackmail and domination. - Could this have been the reason Ukraine was compelled to relinquish its nuclear arsenal?
Set against the backdrop of Hungary in the early 1990s, The Facsimile is a gripping fictional tale centred around a mysterious coded message sent from a concerned officer from the former KGB headquarters to covert agencies in various countries. The narrative unfolds as a handful of determined individuals race against time to decipher the enigmatic transmission to prevent a nuclear Armageddon.
A Hungarian secret service major and a former KGB agent find themselves entangled in a deadly pursuit to avert World War III. Lugossy's familial history with Khazov, rooted in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, adds a personal dimension to the conflict akin to an Italian vendetta. Yana, the sole surviving expert capable of deciphering the coded facsimile, becomes the target of a vengeful former brother-in-arms, Igor Khazov, sparking a chain of violent events.
In Hungary, a German-backed paramilitary organisation emerges to combat crime and corruption following the fall of the Iron Curtain. This group intervenes just in time to rescue Lugossy from an assassination attempt by Khazov. Meanwhile, a rogue former Soviet general threatens the West with nuclear devastation unless his demands to restore the Soviet Union are met.
As secret services race to decode the facsimile, containing the key to preventing nuclear annihilation, Khazov launches a ruthless assault on a Swiss chalet where the information is held, destroying all deciphered copies. Lugossy must navigate a perilous path, framed for murder and pursued by Hungarian authorities, special forces, and Khazov himself.
In a high-stakes climax, Lugossy, with the help of allies, endeavours to rescue Yana, bring the culprits to justice and ultimately prevent the outbreak of a global armed conflict. Woven into the narrative are threads of real-life espionage, reflecting the historical complexities where Hungarians played a pivotal role in revealing secrets to the Soviet Union, nearly crippling NATO, with many evading consequences. The Facsimile is a thrilling blend of espionage, revenge, love, and geopolitical tension, culminating in a race against time to save the world from catastrophic conflict.
