About the Book

English Summary: Far from the traditional approach that has long prevailed, and which made the Oresteia the representation of a diachronic evolution from family to city, the work presented here studies their relationship synchronically. He shows, through a careful examination of the text, that for Aeschylus and his audience, the family group remains a fundamental element in conceiving and representing political and social relations within the polis - be it the exercise power, relationships between citizens, or the essential role of the family unit for the community. It shows how, in its dramatic course, the trilogy represents the risks, and gives, in Athens, an ideal refoundation that legitimizes them.
