About the Author: De formation scientifique (École Polytechnique, Supélec, Génie maritime - mais Sciences Po quand même), Alain Nicolaïdis n'était guère prédestiné à écrire un roman. Mais, après une vie bien remplie de haut fonctionnaire puis de créateur et de dirigeant d'entreprises, il s'est rappelé que Michel Mohrt, entré par la suite à l'Académie française, lui avait dit, à l'occasion de la remise d'un Prix de la nouvelle à l'École Polytechnique: Qu'est-ce-que vous fichez-là ? Vous devriez écrire . Cinquante ans plus tard, Alain Nicolaïdis a suivi son conseil avec son roman "Fiordalisa". Ce roman historique, produit sur le tard, n'est pourtant pas fortuit. Il est né de la conjonction d'une passion pour l'histoire et la politique, d'un amour de la Chine et de sa civilisation, d'un besoin intense de crier sa haine de l'intolérance et de fustiger notre européocentrisme prétentieux qui nous enferme trop souvent, au nom de nos prétendues valeurs, dans une terrible infirmité le refus de voir le monde tel qu'il est.
