About the Book

Gerd Janssen hat 1979 als Angler damit begonnen, die Meerforelle in den Elbe-Nebenflüssen Pinnau und Krückau wieder einzubürgern. Das Augenmerk galt dabei immer dem Lebensraum Bach in seiner Gesamtheit. Diese ganzheitliche Betrachtungsweise schließt die im Titel dieses Buches genannten Arten Forelle, Schwarzstorch und Flatterulme ein, beschränkt sich aber nicht darauf. Daneben war es ihm immer wichtig, seine praktischen Erfahrungen und die wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse des Gewässerrestaurierens einem breiteren Adressatenkreis zu vermitteln. Das waren zunächst vor allem die Angler, doch schon bald auch seine Schüler und darüber hinaus verschiedene gesellschaftliche Gruppierungen bis hin zur Industrie- und Handelskammer. In seinen Veröffentlichungen griff Gerd Janssen schon früh Problemfelder auf, die bis heute nichts von ihrer Aktualität verloren haben und deren praktische Umsetzung vielfach noch aussteht. So geht es um das nach wie vor problemgeladene Thema der Gewässerunterhaltung. Mit Kompromissbereitschaft sind durchaus Ergebnisse zu erzielen, der Autor macht aber auch deutlich, wo die Grenzen des Hinnehmbaren liegen. Einen entscheidenden konzeptionellen Schritt voran tat Gerd Janssen, als er bereits 1988 die Einbeziehung der Talaue und Waldbildung in den Talauen als Teil zukunftsweisender Gewäs-serrestaurierung forderte. In der Folge sind diese Aspekte immer wieder Gegenstand seiner Arbeiten vor Ort und seiner Veröffentlichungen gewesen. Die Entwicklung hin zum Wald-bach hat er schlüssig als notwendige Voraussetzung für das durch die EG-Wasserrahmenrichtlinie geforderte Erreichen des "guten ökologischen Zustands" begründet.
About the Author: Oberstudienrat Gerd Janssen, geboren 1947, Lehrer am Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium in Uetersen mit den Fächern Deutsch und Geschichte, hat sich neben seiner eigentlichen Lehrtätigkeit besonders der Gewässerbiologie und der Umweltbildung gewidmet. Seit 1979 als Angler und Naturschützer mit der Erstellung von Konzepten zur Fließgewässerrenaturierung und deren Realisierung befasst, hat er schon früh die Naturwaldbildung in Talauen als zentralen Aspekt der Fließgewässerrenaturierung propagiert und an praktischen Beispielen mit seinen Schülern verwirklicht. Im Auftrag der Landesregierung Schleswig-Holstein ist er seit 1987 ehrenamtlich im Schwarzstorchschutz tätig. Überdies hat er sich durch zahlreiche Fachpublikationen zur Fließgewässerökologie, zum Gewässerschutz, über den Schwarzstorch und über die Flatterulme einen Namen gemacht.
