Fraud is an issue which generates headlines and exercises politicians and public alike. In Fraud in the Enlarged European Union, Brendan Quirke and Alan Doig provide an analytical, evidenced and considered study of this controversial issue. About the Author: Brendan J. Quirke is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University. He gained his BA (Hons) in Political Theory and Institutions at the University of Liverpool and an M.Phil for A Critical Appraisal of the Policing of EU Fraud by the Transnational Institutions at Liverpool John Moores University. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. Brendan Quirke has published academic articles and contributions to books on the phenomenon of EU fraud and has presented his work at a series of international conferences. He has also acted as an academic adviser on fraud to the UK Home Office and the United Nations Development Programme for Eastern Europe. Alan Doig is Visiting Professor at the Centre for Public Services Management, Liverpool Business School. He was previously Professor of Public Services Management at Liverpool Business School, and Professor of Public Services Management at Teesside Business School, Teesside University, UK. Professor Doig has acted as a mentor in Thailand, appointed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and under the Auspices of the UN Convention against Corruption. He has also been a Resident Advisor to the Council of Europe Prevention of Corruption project in Turkey, funded by the European Union. Alan Doig has directed a range of international consultancies in countries including Lithuania and Latvia. He has held posts with the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation) EU Accession Monitoring Programme and been a member of the Group of Specialists on Public Ethics at Local level and of the Council of Europe Steering Committee on Local and Regional Democracy. He has served as a Board member of the North-east Fraud Forum (UK) and the Standards Board for England. Professor Doig has published extensively on fraud and corruption.
