About the Book

A science-fiction tale developed from documented UFO sightings and other baffling phenomena, part expose of the nuclear power industry, and one hundred percent thrilling story, Best Selling author Vindal Vandakoff pulls back the curtain on the tragedy that struck Japan on March 11, 2011. An expatriate who has long lived in Japan with his Japanese artist wife and family, and intimately familiar with that country's ordinary life and extraordinary politics, Vandakoff populates the village of Otsuchi with a cast of sparkling characters who are about to experience events that will forever change their lives. A triple whammy: the frightening earthquake, the terrifying tsunami, and the chilling inside account of nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant are all brought to life in scenes of greed, tragedy and heroism. Vandakoff brings a special tenderness to his schoolchildren characters. The novel appeals to a wide range of readers, from science fiction fans to students of natural disasters and to anybody who likes a ripping good read.
About the Author: Vindal Vandakoff was living just 110 kilometres from the Fukushima nuclear plant when the earthquake and tsunami hit. He and his family fled 900 kilometres south to the island of Shikoku. He grew up in Sydney, Australia. When he was seventeen he had a serious motorbike accident and broke his spine in three places. The doctors said he would never walk again. But he disregarded their comments and willed himself to walk. Soon after, his brother, who was living on the island of Bali, Indonesia bought him a ticket to visit him. At that time, his brother was in the beginning stages of setting up a lace fashion company, Uluwatu Fashions. Vindal became the production manager. The company expanded to about 1500 workers and the garments where exported around the world. During that time his brother and he explored the Indonesian archipelago for new surf breaks, meeting many adventures such as; sinking their boat, surfing huge waves and tramping through the jungle for days to find new unexplored breaks. On one small island near Lombok (Gili Air) the villagers came out in their sampans as they thought they were running on the water (actually they were surfing) - after which the village put on a feast for them. Not long after that, Vindal met his wife, a Japanese model and actress. She gave up her career in Tokyo and went to live in Bali. After five years he built a yacht in the Sulawesi. His wife and he sailed the 50ft yacht, raw hull, no engine or navigational equipment - just sails and a compass around Indonesia encountering many adventures such as; chased by pirates, arrested by the Indonesian government as suspected spies, a volcanic island erupting only a day after they passed On one island they were forbidden to leave until they converted their religion - which they refused and escaped in the dead of night. After seven years of business and adventure in Indonesia his wife and he move to Tokyo. After Vindal's very sort stint as a model they moved to the country side, and set up a chain of English language schools. Whilst in Japan he studied various martial arts such as Aikido and Kendo. He took up rock and ice climbing scaling many of the mountains in the Japan. After that his wife and he began skydiving and participated in the world biggest skydive. He has previously published a children's book in Australia 'Tim's Adventures on the Planet Alpha' and 'Zeron, the Awakening', which got to number 18 on Amazon's Science Fiction Bestsellers list.
