Dafür werden zunächst grundlegende Begriffe des Gender Pay Gaps erläutert. Daran anschließend stelle ich die zwei grundlegenden, theoretischen Ansätze zur Erklärung der geschlechtsspezifischen Lohnlücke vor. Im anschließenden Kapitel werden einzelne Ursachen der geschlechtsspezifischen Diskriminierung und der strukturellen Benachteiligung von Frauen in Führungspositionen näher beleuchtet. Abschließend werden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse gebündelt dem aktuellen Forschungsstand gegenübergestellt und mögliche Handlungsempfehlungen zur Verbesserung der Lohnungleichheiten in Führungspositionen diskutiert. Geschlechtsspezifische Ungleichheiten ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch den gesamten Lebenslauf von Männern und Frauen. Die strukturelle Diskriminierung zeigt sich in Deutschland am deutlichsten im Lohngefälle zwischen Frauen und Männern auf dem Arbeitsmarkt - dem sogenannten Gender Pay Gap. Es ist Fakt, dass Frauen im Durchschnitt immer noch weniger verdienen als Männer, unabhängig von Positionen in Unternehmen und gewählten Erwerbstätigkeiten. Auch wenn sich das Lohndifferential zwischen Männern und Frauen in den letzten Jahren angenähert hat, besteht gerade in Führungspositionen nach wie vor eine erhebliche Lohnungleichheit. Die Schätzungen über das Ausmaß des Gehaltsunterschiedes bei Führungskräften variieren, dennoch sind sich die Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen einig, dass weibliche Führungskräfte unabhängig von der Unternehmensgröße oder Branche deutlich weniger verdienen als ihre männlichen Kollegen.
