Einleitung Die Lyrik Georg Trakls wird oft in drei Schaffensperioden unterteilt. Die mittlere Phase seiner Dichtung beginnt laut Iris Denneler mit den Anfang 1913 veröffentlichten Gedichten im Brenner1 und zeichnet sich in formaler Hinsicht durch freirhythmische Texte und reimlose Strophenformen aus. Das in dieser Phase veröffentlichte Gedicht 'An den Knaben Elis' ist eines von Trakls ersten eigenrhythmischen Gedichten und unterscheidet sich nicht nur formal von den gereimten Liedformen und Sonetten seiner Zeit. Durch seine bildreiche Sprache und ausgesuchte Motive gestaltet er eine "harmonische Betonungsfolge und musikalische Klangfülle".2 Die äußere poetische Ordnung verschwindet hinter der Sprache des jeweiligen Gedichtes. Innere Ordnung und Harmonie, nicht mehr die Metrik und das Reimschema, zeichnen sich nun als Stützen der Sprache aus.3 Im Angesicht einer von Verfall und Ängsten geprägten Gesellschaft, entwickelt Trakl zudem das Gefühl des unwiederbringlichen Verlustes der jugendlichen Geborgenheit durch das Hinausgeworfensein in diese Zeit.4 "In diesem Augenblick der lyrischen und existentiellen Bewußtwerdung formt sich in seiner dichterischen Phantasie die Elis-Figur"5, die auch in seinem späteren Werk immer wieder aufgegriffen wird. Die folgende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Analyse und Interpretation des Gedichtes 'An den Knaben Elis'. Dazu wird zunächst ein Einblick in den Elis-Stoff gegeben, um ihre Herkunft und die Inspiration für diese Figur nachvollziehen zu können. Anschließend werden in kurzer Form die stilistischen Merkmale der mittleren Phase sowie die Eingliederung der Elis-Gestalt in diese aufgezeigt, um im nächsten Schritt auf das Gedicht eingehen zu können.
