Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Wie bereits im Titel genannt, behandelt diese Arbeit zum einen die Postmoderne als die Epoche, in der wir uns derzeit befinden. Es wird auf einer analytischen Ebene der Frage nachgegangen, was sich wie und wo verändert hat. So bietet diese Arbeit eine - sicherlich nicht vollständige - aber weit reichende Beschreibung von dem, was heute oft und gern Postmoderne genant wird. Um solche Veränderungen greifbar zu machen, ist es zweckmäßig, dass die Postmoderne mit „ihrem Vorgänger" - der Moderne - verglichen wird und so Unterschiede aufgezeigt werden. Diese Gegenüberstellung geschieht dabei auf mehreren Ebenen: Wie hat sich die Arbeit seit der Moderne verändert? Hier werden heute überall wieder zu findende Phänomene wie Globalisierung, Flexibilität und entgrenzte Arbeitszeit sowie die neue Anforderungen an heutige Arbeitnehmer wie z.B. sofft skills behandelt. Es werden dabei nicht nur die Chancen solcher Arbeitsbedingungen erörtert, sondern auch die Risiken und Gefahren. So wird geklärt, ob die Arbeit heute noch „entfremdet" (im Sinne Marx') sein kann. Ein zweiter Ansatzpunkt ist der Beruf. Es stellt sich heute angesichts von Zeitarbeit, so genannten „Jobs" und flexibler Arbeitszeit die Frage, was vom Beruf noch bleibt. Wozu ist der Beruf gut? Brauchen wir ihn noch? Weiter beschäftigt sich diese Diplomarbeit mit der Problematik, wie sich die sozialen Bedingungen heute gewandelt haben. Geht es uns im Wohlfahrtsstaat wirklich allen besser? Wenn ja, gibt es andere Probleme? Welche Rolle spielt dabei die heute überall zu findende Individualisierung? Nicht für Gewerkschaftler - die diese Phänomene heute vor allem bekämpfen oder von einem Bedeutungsverlust des Berufs oft nichts hören wollen - lässt sich hier eine Relevanz dieser Diplomarbeit erkennen, sonder für alle, die mit Arbeit und Beruf zu tun haben.
