The Good Parents' Guide is not another wedge of a baby manual as it focuses on enhancing a child's development, and is in addition to the advice given by the health expects. It is a short but educational adult picture book, informing parents and carers of simple but effective strategies which guide children into becoming happy, healthy, respectful and engaging individuals. The book has been created with a clear, no-frills approach, so that the message is driven by being affordable and readable to everyone. Initially the book is aimed at caring for children 0-5 years to match the author's Early Years training however, much of the information is timeless and can be applied to supporting the later years. This guide has been carefully created by Hayley, who is an Early Years Teacher longing to share the tricks of the trade with others because the reflective points give parent and carers clear strategies to approach everyday situations. The research has been done for you as the knowledge in this guide has been adapted from extended reading, training courses, and first hand experience both as a parent, and caring for children within nursery and school settings. The guide book has been carefully divided into four sections: - Social and Emotional Development - Communication and Language - Regulating Behaviour - Enthusiasm towards Learning. These areas of development relate to the early years curriculum, and it is these areas that Hayley found needed the extra support. The Good Parents' Guide is an easy read for a busy parent or carer, and is displayed in a retro, fun format consisting of witty pictures and reflective phrases allowing the reader to not only memorise it's content but also to relate to the message raised. The reader is encouraged to compare the reflective messages with their own experiences, encouraging the reader to understand, and form an empathy with the child's needs and responses. The pages are versatile because they are set as vintage postcards allowing them to be used in various ways, whether that be photocopying a selected few and tacking them to a fridge or carrying them around in a handbag to be referred to when words of wisdom are required. The book is written with a modest approach, not claiming to know all there is to know about raising a child but instead, sharing strategies which have been effective, allowing the parent or carer to try and test the approaches themselves. They know their children better than anyone after all. These are the strategies which Hayley wished had been shared with her when she began her own journey through parenthood.
