About the Book

English summary: Volume 1 of the Hans Kelsen Werke (HKW) contains Kelsen's publications during his 'pre-critical phase' between 1905 and 1910, ranging from the monograph on Die Staatslehre des Dante Alighieri (1905) and the Kommentar zur osterreichischen Reichsratswahlordnung (1907), which was influential at that time, to a number of book reviews which were published in the Archiv fur Sozialwissenschaft und Sozialpolitik in 1910. These texts still show near-complete adherence to the then orthodox jurisprudential method; very little pointed to the Kelsen who later created the 'Pure Theory of Law' or to the man whose radical views would go on to challenge the jurisprudence of the early twentieth century. His earliest publications are preceded by biographical information given by Kelsen, including the long-lost 1947 autobiography.
