About the Book

The Harrier is a medium-sized breed of dog that is classified as a hound. The breed greatly resembles the English Foxhound but is much smaller in size. The origin of the breed is widely disputed. Some theories suggest that the Harrier was created by cross-breeding the English Foxhound, the Greyhound and the Fox Terrier. While other theories suggest that the Harrier descends from a mixture of the Talbot Hound, the Bloodhound and the Basset Hound. The first Harrier pack was established in England during the mid-1200s and the breed quickly spread throughout England and Whales. Despite England being the point of origin for the first Harrier pack, England does not actually recognize the Harrier as a breed but the American Kennel Club first registered a Harrier in 1885. The modern Harrier is between the English Foxhound and the Beagle in size and was developed primarily for the purpose of hunting hares, although it has also been commonly used to hunt foxes. The Harrier has a muscular body with a hard and short coat. The breed is large boned to allow it to have both stamina and strength during a hunt. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a Harrier. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your Harrier with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the Harrier is an affectionate, loyal and cheerful breed. They are highly tolerant dogs and will become friendly with strangers very quickly. It is important to note that the Harrier is a hound dog, which means that it enjoys exploring, sniffing and trailing - so it is important to make sure that you keep your Harrier on a leash or in a safely fenced enclosed area. It is also important to note that as a working breed, the Harrier has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the Harrier has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity.

Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care.
