About the Book

The Book "My Name is Jupiter Mule and You Don't Know Me" was a fictional excursion through a number of events and milestones in the life of Jupiter Mule. Jupiter or Jupe as most people call him, has a talent for going down the weedy path most people don't even see. You know the Robert Frost poem that talks about, "Two paths diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference"? When Jupe got to that split in the paths he went crashing off the trail entirely, slipped in mud, skidded down a ravine on his butt and got dumped face first in a stream. Then he turned around and yelled, "Hey, look what I found". It is a carnival just being around him. Let's go watch what he is up to but don't get too close. We want to stay as observers not participants.
About the Author: The author was born in Hampton Virginia at a small hospital directly in front of where the Monitor and Merrimack fought their famous battle on Hampton Roads. At age one his family relocated to a reform school for boys near Maidens Adventure, Virginia (since shortened to Maidens). At that time it was called Beaumont Reform School. Eventually, his father became the Superintendent. In first grade the author was almost expelled from elementary school on the third and fifth day of the school year. This wouldn't be the last time he would run afoul of school authorities. Between first and second grade the family moved to GIS now known as Scioto Village School for Girls. It was outside of Shawnee Hills a small town just slightly larger than Maidens. Yes, it was another reform school and it should be noted that a reform school is a great place to raise children. They eventually moved off of the grounds but the author continued close ties to the juvenile corrections system as his father worked in the administration of many of them and in adult corrections forensic units; but also because he almost became an inmate of the system on a couple of occasions. The author went through the usual teen experience, lived in a barn, played with dynamite, got suspended from school, almost didn't graduate, painted a water tower, and paid off a cop. You know, the regular. He graduated 593rd of 605. He is sure given a few more weeks he could have gotten to the 600's. He tried college but he participated in one floor of Dracket Tower seceding from the oppressive rule of the Ohio State University. He and fellow conspirators blocked the 2nd floor with concrete blocks, posted guards, and sent perplexingly confusing demands to the administration. At the conclusion of this misadventure he and several others were informed that they were not suitable for University Housing-goodbye. He joined the Marines on a dare, they made him a tank crewman and then made him go to Vietnam. He had the usual experiences, ran his gun tube up the back of a civilian bus, set his Sergeants bed on fire, and narrowly avoided the brig several times. He came home got married to the most wonderful woman in the world, had children, grandchildren and then wrote a book.
