In der heutigen Wirtschaftswelt ist es mittlerweile zum Standard geworden, dass die Mitarbeiter in Abhängigkeit des Unternehmenserfolges vergütet werden. Das Ziel dieser Vergütungsform liegt in den motivationalen Anreizen, die durch den variablen Entlohnungsanteil zum Ausdruck kommen. Dieser monetäre Anreiz hat das Ziel, die Motivation eines Mitarbeiters bei seiner Arbeitsverrichtung zu erhöhen, um den damit korrelierenden Unternehmenserfolg positiv zu beeinflussen. In der Gesundheitsökonomie geht es hierbei um die Fragestellung, ob durch ein adäquates System von erfolgsorientierter Vergütung, die Versorgungsqualität verbessert, respektive die Versorgungskosten im Gesundheitswesen reduziert werden können.
