About the Author: Frithjof Schuon, 1907 als Sohn deutscher Eltern in Basel geboren, ist der führende Vertreter der Sophia perennis (der immwerwährenden Weisheit) im 20. Jahrhundert. In seiner Jugend kam es in Basel anlässlich einer Darbietung afrikanischer Kultur zu einer Begegnung mit einem Marabut, die sein ganzes Leben prägen sollte. Im Laufe des Gesprächs zeichnete der ehrwürdige alte Mann einen Kreis mit Radien auf den Boden und erklärte: Gott ist der Mittelpunkt; alle Wege führen zu ihm. Schuon war ein Philosoph in der Tradition von Platon, von Shankara und von Meister Eckhart, und er schrieb mehr als zwanzig Bücher über Religion, Metaphysik, heilige Kunst und den geistigen Weg.
