About the Book

Maggie Tabberer is one of Australia's most photographed, most talked about and most loved personalities. Here she tells of her journey from a childhood in suburban Adelaide to the peak of the Australian fashion industry, a journey of stunning professional achievements matched by a rich and often tempestuous personal life. For the first time Maggie reveals the highs and lows of her first marriage when she was just a teenager, her on-again off-again romance and marriage with Ettore Prossimo, her romantic liaisons and her long-term relationship with Richard Zachariah. She takes us into her life, and with honesty, laughter and sometimes tears she introduces us to her children, her friends, her world. Maggie's career was launched when, as a young mother of two in the 1950s, she was discovered by top fashion photographer Helmut Newton. From the day Newton phoned her to say his first shots of her were 'wonderful, just wonderful' Maggie did not stop. She was named Model of the Year in 1960, and was in constant demand for Vogue Australia and every other major fashion magazine in Australia and New Zealand. Married at seventeen and a mother at eighteen, her first marriage broke down when she was twenty-four and she became the sole bread winner for her two young daughters. Determined to remain independent, she carved a unique place for herself in the emerging Australian fashion industry, establishing a fashion promotions and publicity company, Maggie Tabberer Associates. Her media profile soared when she joined the inaugural panel of 'Beauty and the Beast', winning the loyalty of viewers across the country. She went on to host her own show 'Maggie' from 1968 to 1970, taking out television's top award, the Gold Logie, two years running. For sixteen years Maggie wrote a weekly fashion column for the Sydney Daily Mirror, then became the face of The Australian Women's Weekly-advertising the magazine on national television and writing its much-read fashion pages. During this time Maggie changed the image of the fashion show in Australia, using glossy and innovative productions to display the collections of Australia's leading designers and turning fashion parades into top-rating television viewing. Maggie Tabberer has always been larger than life. The name behind the Maggie T range, the first designer range for women with a fuller figure, she has brought style and flair into the lives of thousands of women across Australia. As co-presenter of 'The Home Show' from 1990 to 1993 she combined her sense of colour and design with her love of creating a beautiful and fashionable home. Recipient of numerous marketing and fashion awards, Maggie is the only person to appear twice on 'This is Your Life'. In 1998 Maggie was awarded t
