"Mio Caro Riccardo," è una intrigante e avvincente cronistoria durata vent'anni tra Gabriele D'Annunzio e Riccardo Frassetto, dall'Impresa di Fiume del 1919 fino alla morte del grande Poeta nel 1938.
Il Frassetto nasce a Roma nel 1893 ma la famiglia è originaria di Crocetta del Montello (Treviso). È giovane tenente dei Granatieri di Sardegna quando partecipa con onore alla Grande Guerra dove guadagna tre ferite e altrettante strisce argentee.
L'Italia, pur Nazione vincitrice, esce umiliata dalla Conferenza di Pace di Parigi.
Gli alleati, in spregio al prebellico Trattato di Londra, non riconoscono gran parte della Dalmazia, mentre rimane incerto il destino di Fiume, occupata dall'esercito interalleato.
Nel 1919 il tenente è promotore del giuramento "Fiume o Morte" con altri sei Ufficiali, che diventano "I Sette Giurati di Ronchi" e si impegnano solennemente a liberare la città ed annetterla all'Italia. Hanno bisogno di un capo prestigioso e il Frassetto, primo dei sette, scrive una storica lettera a Gabriele D'Annunzio, lo incontra alla Casa Rossa a Venezia e gli offre il comando di un battaglione di Granatieri di stanza a Ronchi.
L'Impresa di Fiume inizia trionfalmente il 12 settembre 1919 e termina tragicamente il 31 dicembre del 1920. Il giovane Tenente vive i 16 mesi sempre a fianco del Poeta Soldato come strettissimo collaboratore e diventando un autorevole e diretto testimone dell'intera Avventura Fiumana. Nel 1926 scrive "I Disertori di Ronchi" un libro approvato da D'Annunzio con le parole: "Caro Riccardo, ho letto il tuo bel libro. Ora sei autore fra gli autori". In "Mio Caro Riccardo," sono richiamati i più coinvolgenti passaggi dell' Impresa di Fiume ed è arricchito da fotografie, da documenti e da lettere, con parecchi inediti. Un epistolario che documenta il ventennale rapporto di amicizia, di fiducia e di frequentazione esistente tra i due e che si esaurisce solo con la scomparsa del Vate. Nel 1937, Riccardo Frassetto si trasferisce a Roma, per assumere l'importante incarico di responsabile della comunicazione e della fotografia dell'E42, l'Esposizione Universale di Roma del 1942, mai avvenuta causa l'entrata in guerra dell'Italia. Partecipa come maggiore alle campagne di Francia, Albania e Grecia dove viene fatto prigioniero dai tedeschi e internato in un campo di concentramento in Germania.
Vive a Treviso dove muore nel 1964 e qui è sepolto, fino a quando i suoi resti non saranno traslati nel loculo a lui assegnato, nella Cripta del Mausoleo del Vittoriale, accanto al suo Comandante.
