Le mot en lui-même est clair, je veux dire; il se laisse traduire facilement: der Ruhm en allemand, the glory en anglais et la gloria en espagnol. Mais qu´est-ce que veut dire ce mot ? Ou plutôt: quelle est sa signification ? En y réfléchissant bien, c´est un mot qui a beaucoup de connotations différentes. Politiques, historiques et culturelles. Gloria in excelsis deo. C´est connu ça. On le chante à l´église. Au moins les gens qui y vont encore. Les vieux. Il semble donc y avoir une référence divine. Mais laquelle ? Vaut mieux jeter un coup d´oeil dans le dictionnaire, ça peut toujours être utile. Gloire: (lat. gloria) béatitude céleste dont jouissent les élus après leur mort. Il faut donc mourir pour atteindre la gloire. C´est tout ? Je veux dire: ça suffit ? Il n´y a rien de plus ? Parce que tout le monde doit mourir, tôt ou tard. Donc, tout le monde atteint la gloire ? Non, ce n´est pas possible. Il doit y avoir un truc. C´est peut-être la façon de mourir qui fait la différence ? Jésus, par exemple: personne ne dira qu´il est mort d´une mort ordinaire, lui. Non, il s´agissait d´une mort forcée. C´était le résultat d´un combat. D´une lutte, si on veut. Oui, une lutte entre Jésus et les hommes. Il a sacrifié sa vie pour sauver les hommes. Et c´est comme ça, qu´il a pu atteindre la gloire divine. C´est clair, non ? Mais où est le rapport avec Le Cid ? La lutte ? Évidemment la lutte, ou plutôt le duel, un thème central de la pièce. Il y avait quelque chose avec les duels dans la pièce. Ah oui, bien sûr. Les duels étaient un des points de critiques concernant la pièce. La fameuse Querelle du Cid. Déclanchée entre
