About the Book

A historically accurate novel in all regards, exploring 1927 Detroit, as the Automobile Industry was exploding. The Randolph family make their way from the deep south of Kentucky in 1927 to start a new life, with Jack Randolph applying his engineering skills in this new Motorcity. Over the ensuing 35 years, Jack Randolph is able to reach the office of President of Cadillac Motors Co. Years of traversing the Great Depression, WWII, production of mandatory conscriptions for the Federal war effort, the wild UAW struggles, and even the Purple Gang make powerful appearances. Through many other trials and tribulations, Jack proves to be a man of caring about the men and women that build his cars and trucks. His favorites were the men and women that ran the "lines." These relationships propel him to great heights, in a new generation of car and engineer design. With influences from Mark Twain, Charles Dickens and John Steinbeck this book is a classic, in the sense that all the detail of the era is brought through, clearly and authentically and its all historically true, but in a novel setting. Figures of speech and accents included. There has never been a novel written that accurately tells of the creating and early development of the Automotive industry in a compelling and riveting manner. A novel, not a historical biop. Great fictional characters with lots of back-grounding, but then many others like FDR, Eleanor Roosevelt, President and General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Edsel Ford, Walter Chrysler and many others. Some have speaking roles and others simply add vinatage decoration and scenery. A combination of the blended feelings of "It's a Wonderful Life," "Tom Sawyer" (Mark Twain) and "The Grapes of Wrath." (Steinbeck) The first half could be a Norman Rockwell, if one was a book, and the second half is tragedy and trials. Struggle, despair and finally victory. The story ends on a somber note, just 2 weeks after JKF was killed. The world as we all knew it, ended, and so do Jack Randolph and his heartwarming and tearing story of a city that became an industrial beacon of the north. A light- hearted Epilogue leaves everyone happy in the end. THIS IS LITERATURE highly complimented publicly for its quality, and creativity by Ph.D. level Literature Graduates. THIS IS NOT PULP FICTION! Took 5 years to bring to completion. A great read!
