About the Book

This two-volume set is comprised of three sections—Biblical Studies, Assyriology and Near Eastern Studies, and Comparative Studies—across which friends and colleagues present contributions in honor of Mordechai Cogan. Best known as the author of the Anchor Bible Commentary on 1 and 2 Kings, Cogan has followed in the footsteps of one of his mentors, Hayim Tadmor, integrating the study of ancient Israel within its ancient Near Eastern context, particularly at the time of Assyrian hegemony.
