About the Book

This historic book may have numerous typos or missing text. Not indexed. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. 1868. Not illustrated. Excerpt: ... PBEFACE. MONGST all the Institutions in Holy Church, designed! by Almighty God for the help and salvation of man, that of a Religious State stands out in bold relief. The original is exceedingly scarce, and consequently can only be in the hands of but very few; hence the present publication. Even an abstract of the sentiments of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church on so important a subject, cannot fail to prove highly instructive to a large number of our co-Religionists; and possibly also to several non-Catholics. The time seems moat opportune for a work of this nature, when, as His Holiness in a recent Allocution tells us, "the pious Institut...
