About the Book

Paper Girl is a fast-paced crime-fiction story with forbidden love at its centre. The debut novel by Dublin-based news journalist, Laura Lynott, centres in on the life of of Irish reporter Grace O'Brien, a single mother struggling to break the glass ceiling when she stumbles upon the biggest story of her career when an actress' dismembered body is found in a suitcase in the Wicklow Mountains. Grace must face her own morality as she delves further in to the murder and comes face-to-face with the Irish criminal underworld. As Paper Girl tells Grace's story too, we see how her will for success almost drags her down a path she may not be able to find her way back from... Paper Girl challenges perceptions of journalists and criminals and creates the setting for female empowerment versus a road to redemption.
About the Author: Laura Lynott has been a journalist for more than a decade in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK. She has covered some of Ireland's biggest news stories in recent years, including crime, political and human tragedy. Laura, born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, is the daughter of Irish parents, who moved to Ireland almost 10 years ago. The respected journalist has worked on national and local newspapers throughout her career and has become a trusted writer. She has a passion for crime writing, striving to gain justice for the victims of crime and for assisting the underdog in Irish society during harsh economic times. Laura is a mother of one teenage daughter whom she states is her best achievement in life. The debut novelist is scheduled to release a planned series of books tracing the life of Paper Girl's protagonist, reporter Grace O'Brien. Paper Girl is a fictional book inspired by some true events in the journalist's life. She spent time with some of Dublin's most notorious underworld criminals to create a realistic fictional world. The journalist's primary aim was to create a strong female role model for female crime fiction readers. "Grace O'Brien is a mother, a career woman, who is seeking love and success," Laura said. 'Grace is you or me or most modern women today though her life may be a little more complex given her job and the fact she falls for the wrong man." Paper Girl is dedicated to Olivia, my strength, my sun, earth and moon, and to my beautiful mother, Bridget, who made me the woman I am today. Thank you to Simon Muddiman, my best friend and the talented designer of Paper Girl's book cover, Mark O'Brien, a very special man and Tracey Bearton, the most honest of editors;) A big thank you posthumously to Ailsa Cranna, from Salford, one of the world's best hacks, who taught me a great deal of what I know. RIP Ails. How I wish I could have seen you one last time.
