Estratto: Armand Emmanuel de Vignerot du Plessis, duca di Richelieu (Parigi, 25 settembre 1766 - Parigi, 17 maggio 1822) e stato un politico e diplomatico francese. Fu due volte primo ministro di Luigi XVIII nel corso della Restaurazione borbonica. Nacque a Parigi, gran nobile del regno di Luigi XVI, in quanto figlio del duca di Fronsac e nipote di uno dei favoriti di Luigi XV, il maresciallo di Richelieu, a sua volta pro-pro-nipote del cardinale di Richelieu. Nel 1782, a quindici anni, sposo Rosalie de Rochechouart, una bambina di dodici anni, affetta da deformita, con la quale non ebbe mai relazioni piu che formali. Tant'e che, subito dopo il matrimonio, Armand parti, accompagnato dal proprio tutore, per il Grand Tour, recandosi, fra le altre citta, a Ginevra, Firenze e Vienna.
