About the Book

This clerkship manual will be one more suited for the variety of types (both early and late) of clerkships than the compeition, which is suited only for clerkships occurring late in the curriculum. As the pharmacy profession has moved from the traditional production orientation to a patient orientation (pharmaceutical care practice), the curriculum has evolved to include more experiential learning coursework to support the patient orientation. The role of the experiential education and especially the clerkship experience is to hasten and enhance the development of this concept and philosophy in students. Clerkships, for which the student earns academic credit and are required, use patient care experience to integrate and apply information from prior didactic coursework. Their goal is to develop and enhance a student's therapeutic problem-solving skills and knowledge of the appropriate uses of medications. This new text will include information that is lacking from one or the other competing books, including case presentations, drug information material, medical terminology, and diagnostic material. The goal for this text is to make it useful at all levels of experiential education clerkships. The idea will be to provide a text for the student to write the "pearls" from faculty into this book for future sue and to have an integrated chart (workbook) with cases, and problems for solving that can be used in small group discussions or on rotations. The combination is unique in the marketplace.
