About the Book

Explicating the meaning of the word 'subaltern,' the present volume offers a theoretical framework which encompasses various postcolonial literatures and a wide range of literary topics. It takes up important issues like postcolonial identity, multiethnic identity, relationship between literature and culture, transcultural dialogue, diaspora and indigenous writing with reference to writers as varied as Rabindranath Tagore and Paulo Coelho, E.M. Forster and Nirad Chaudhuri, Arundhati Roy and Michael Ondaatje, William Wordsworth and John Steinbeck. The volume makes a rich contribution to the fields of subaltern studies, comparative literature and contemporary postcolonial theory. About Author : Raja Sekhar petteti is currently Associate Professor and Chairman PG Board of Studies, Department of English, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. He has served as the Head during 2004-2006. His book Discursive Discourse: Jewish Canadian Discourse in Perspective (2000) has been widely appreciated. He recently published his book on West Indian literature entitled The Fiction of Wilsom Harris. His scholarly presentations in US, Canada and UK on Native and Dalit perspectives are of high critical value. He has guided a number of M.Phil. and Ph. D. scholars, and has published articles in national and international journals.
