Su formato, hasta ahora sencillo, rústico, responde a la necesidad de garantizar la salida de artículos y ensayos con la rapidez de inmediatez indispensables para el sostenimiento de un diálogo vivo entre los escritores e investigadores del país interesados en lanzar sus ideas y contribuciones al ruedo de la discusión abierta y pública.Las revistas de corte teórico o investigativo actualmente existentes, a pesar de la innegable importancia de la labor que realizan, están casi todas restringidas al ámbito institucional académico de sus respectivas especialidades, sus materiales ven la luz con dos o tres y hasta más de cuatro años de retraso; no admiten en su mayoría ensayos investigativo con formatos innovadores, o distintos de los exigidos por los lineamientos de su especialidad; no apelan a un público intelectual general amplio, representativo de experiencias distintas. El autor o investigador con deseos de diálogo e intercambio con diferentes sectores de la comunidad no tiene más opción, si depende de esa revista, que esperar varios años por la salida de su trabajo, y varios años más para recibir algún tipo de reacción o respuesta que estimule su labor. Además, dado el marco restringido en que circulan, podrá contar con que, a lo sumo, dos o tres colegas lean sus escritos, antes de quedar sepultados en los abultados y polvorosos archivos, catálogos y estibas de revistas académicas que inundan las cocheras, sótanos y bibliotecas de las universidades.Postdata mantiene sus contenidos dentro de un alto nivel intelectual con el entendido de que el país necesita un espacio público de discusión a ese nivel y que la complejidad de las ideas no se riñe con la amplitud de su alcance cultural en la comunidad. Ese es sólo uno de los acontecimientos más precipitados y sonados. Quizás mayor profundidad tengan las transformaciones de la vida política, económica y cultural que signan la gran erupción de los fundamentos de la modernidad que nos permitirán definir conceptos centrales de la actividad intelectual y artística y científica así como cultural tales como el de " ser humano", "humanismo", "identidad", "cultura", "sociedad", "la vida", "la izquierda (política)", "la derecha", "el pueblo" y otros. Al explorar ese tipo de discusión Postdata intenta colocar la reflexión cultural puertorriqueña en la arena del debate global sobre la cultura y salir un poco del entorno insularista y tercermundista y de las ttradiciones académicas especializadas.
