For the first time an expanded International Edition of this highly regarded textbook will present a comprehensive account of general surgery with a particular emphasis on those surgical conditions specific to the Indian sub-continent and tropical regions including for example: the chapter on Infections & Antibiotics will have a new section on atypical mycobacterial infections and prophylactic antibiotics as well as text on wound classification a section on commonly used drugs, anaesthetic agents and local anaesthetics as well details of cardiopulmonary resuscitation will expand the Pre-operative assessment and anaesthesia chapter Surgical manifestations of typhoid fever, tuberculosis of the abdomen and amoebiasis will be added. The Cardiothoracic chapter will be expanded to include text on the surgery for pulmonary tuberculosis. Tropical infections such as cholangiohepatitits will be included in the Liver chapter There will be a new basic chapter on Swellings, ulcers, sinuses, fistula and common skin conditions Among the topics in the book which will be significantly expanded will be: tropical pancreatitis thyroid disease vascular conditions such as Filarial lymphoedema, Buerger's disease and Raynaud's syndrome Urological surgery will be significantly extended Emergency situations such as subarachnoid haemorrhage, meningomyelocoele and infective causes of Hydrocepalus will be added. Two experienced teaching surgeons from Northern and Southern India will oversee the editorial expansion of the book alongside additional contributing authors from Asian medical schools A substantial number of new illustrations will be included of presentations of tropical illness including radiology and clinical photographs Updated evidence-based revision boxes will focus on major international guidelines An enhanced section will focus on presenting problems in surgical disease
