On the way home from celebrating his 14th birthday at the Secaucus Fair in New Jersey, Eric Davis along with his older sister, Tiffany, are assaulted by group of men. What they wanted chilled Eric as it was not robbery and had nothing to do with him. It did not take long to know there was little hope of survival for either of them . When all seemed lost, they are saved by very unique young man, Chris Wilson, and his friends who call themselves the Protectors. Chris is injured in the rescue and seeing the limited medical care he receives, Eric decides on what he can do to thank him. Train to be a protector, go to medical school, and be there for him when needed.
Eric's life changes drastically over the next few years in his desire to join this group with danger now being the norm. Tiffany and Chris become an item which makes Eric's promise to himself even more important than ever. With Tiffany now romantically involved with Chris and danger around every corner, Eric comes to know the men and women that make up the Protectors. Their true strength is in their love, friendship and loyalty for each other. Chris's ability to accelerate his metabolism increasing his agility and strength also comes with a great responsibility and risk. Eric knows that unless he fulfills the promise he made to himself the night he met Chris, he will not be there when Chris needs him the most. And time is getting short!
