About the Book

Although Bobby was born in the Philippines he is a spoiled child raised in the United States of America. He has agreed to his father's demand that he become a missionary to the Philippines.Bobby initially makes a good attempt to make a living from preaching. This is in itself a miracle considering Bobby's total lack of knowledge or interest in the Holy Bible.Aided by his trusted friend, Louie, once he discovers that Filipinos enjoy a show, he begins to succeed but when they run out of money, and their the chips are down their in-built Filipino cunning comes to the fore. They take advantage of the ill thought out infamous Republican Act 7610 and gaining publicity and securing donations to take out private prosecutions against foreigners accused of child abuse. In an unexpected twist, a local priest uses their own methods against them to gain both the business and its assets.Although events in this book might bear a resemblance to real-life happenings on the Philippines, the characters are all purely figments of the author's imagination and any perceived resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coincidental.Jeff DuBuisson (Alan C. Atkins) Manila 2012
About the Author: Alan Atkins spent his early years in Southampton, England, in the early 40's through to the late 50's and he told his story in his book, A Nice Cup of Tea. He spent his later life in Manila and was a correspondent for the Philippine News Papers. This book was first written under his pseudonym Jeff DuBisson in order to avoid any repercussions on his family who were under threat due to his work in defending people experiencing injustices in the Philippines. He also wrote the book "Sentenced to Death", A Book of Dreams Production, which tells the true story of Suny Wilson who was the first Englishman to be sentenced to death in the Philippines, . He spent 4 years on Death Row in New Bilibid Prison. He was finally acquitted in December 1999. This book seeks to demonstrate how apparent injustice can be experienced by foreigners in the Philippines. It is not a true story although some may identify certain characters as real people. The Rise and Fall of Brother Bobby demonstrates how naïve foreigners may well be taken advantage of and get into serious trouble in the Philippines. Alan wrote "The Rise and Fall of Brother Bobby", which is a humorous none fiction story loosely based on the observed behavior of certain religious people in the Philippines. It certainly reflects his view of the culture of some Filipinos. This story, also reflects the real life story of an injustice against Michael John Clarke, who too was sentence to prison in the Philippines for a crime he never committed, where who died of tuberculosis in New Bilibid Prison. This is told in the book Trojan Warriors, by David Clarke, the brother of Michael John Clarke. Alan gave support to David when he visited the Philippine in 2001, in order to bring help and relief to Michael who was David's brother. See the Alan's letters of support and news article sent to David on the 11 th September 2001 at the end of this book.
