Dieses Buch deckt die Ursachen und Zusammenhänge der Staatsschuldenkrise im Euroraum auf und untersucht sie im Detail. Dies ist insofern relevant, da die Schuldenstandsquote eines Landes auch die Bonität und folglich auch ihre Finanzierungskosten mitbestimmt. Von besonderer Bedeutung wird hierbei auch die zunehmende Verflechtung zwischen den höchst unterschiedlichen Euro-Ländern sein. So liegt die Vermutung nahe, dass eine Stabilisierung des gesamten Währungsraums durch die einheitliche Geldpolitik der EZB und den Risikotransfer zwischen den Staaten zusätzlich erschwert wird. Es wird verständlich erklärt warum der Staat, der Bankensektor und das Wirtschaftswachstum über mannigfaltige Wege miteinander verbunden sind und eine nachhaltige Aufhebung der Schuldenfalle nur möglich ist, wenn alle drei Bereiche stabilisiert werden konnten.
